Brainlab and Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish North India’s first Centre of Excellence for Brain & Spine, powered by Brainlab’s Loop-X® Mobile Imaging Robot. The initiative aims to strengthen access to advanced, technology-enabled neurosurgical and spine care for patients across the region.
The centre will bring together Amrita Hospital’s clinical expertise in neurology and neurosurgery with Brainlab’s expertise in intraoperative imaging and surgical navigation technologies, while also serving as a platform for clinical training, technology demonstrations and knowledge exchange among surgeons and healthcare professionals.
At the heart of the centre will be Loop-X®, Brainlab’s robotic mobile imaging system, which provides high-quality 2D and 3D cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images directly inside the operating room. The system enables surgical teams to obtain detailed intraoperative images that can be integrated with navigation technology to guide procedures and verify surgical results before the patient leaves the operating room. Intraoperative imaging allows surgeons to visualise anatomy, verify implant placement and acquire additional images when clinically required—capabilities that can be particularly valuable during complex brain and spine procedures where accuracy is critical.
Loop-X® combines robotic positioning with 2D and 3D intraoperative imaging and offers a scalable field of view that can be adapted to clinical requirements. Its large gantry opening supports different patient positions, while its robotic design allows imaging to be repeated during a procedure when clinically required. The system also supports patient-specific imaging by focusing scans on the area being treated, helping to optimise radiation exposure. By combining intraoperative imaging with Brainlab’s navigation ecosystem, Loop-X® can provide surgical teams with updated anatomical information during a procedure while supporting a more integrated operative workflow.
Aseem Malhotra, Managing Director, Brainlab India, said, “The signing of this MoU with Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, marks an important step in bringing advanced technology closer to clinical practice in neuro and spine care. With Loop-X®, our mobile imaging robot, we are bringing intraoperative 2D and 3D imaging together with robotic functionality to support connected surgical workflows. Loop-X® enables patient-tailored imaging, seamless intraoperative registration and accuracy verification, helping clinicians integrate imaging and navigation directly into the operating room. Through this partnership, we look forward to supporting clinicians with advanced imaging and navigation technologies and contributing to the continued development of technology-enabled neuro and spine care in North India.”
Dr. Sanjeev Singh, Medical Director, Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, said, “The opening of this dedicated centre is proof of our commitment to continuously enhancing the capabilities available to patients requiring complex neuro and spine care. With advanced intraoperative imaging and navigation, we can support our clinical teams by providing better visibility during surgery and enabling verification within the operating room itself. Our partnership with Brainlab will further augment the technology-enabled ecosystem at Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, and help us advance the delivery of specialised care for patients across the region.”
As part of the Centre of Excellence, Brainlab and Amrita Hospital aim to establish a dedicated hub for advanced brain and spine surgery, clinical learning and technology-enabled surgical innovation. The centre will support complex surgical procedures while facilitating clinical training, technology demonstrations and knowledge sharing among healthcare professionals. The partnership is also intended to expand access to specialised neuro and spine care for patients across North India and contribute to the continued development of technology-enabled surgical care in the region.
