Ganga Acrowools Limited (GAL), India’s and the world’s leading craft yarn manufacturer with an annual turnover of ₹850 crore and exports to over 60 countries, unveiled its Premium Hand Knitting Yarns Collection 2026 in New Delhi, in collaboration with Heartbeats Premium Yarns. The curated showcase was a first-of-its-kind B2B meeting that brought together distributors, retailers, designers, self-help groups, artisan communities, and boutique entrepreneurs to celebrate India’s rapidly evolving handmade craft economy. GAL presented innovative yarns for the domestic market alongside export products for feedback, highlighting its extensive portfolio of over 900 yarn varieties and 15,000 SKUs worldwide, of which 110 varieties with 3,500 SKUs are sold in India. The company’s design team also displayed articles crafted from these yarns, underscoring the creative potential of knitting and crochet beyond traditional winter wear into categories such as home décor, gifting, boutique fashion, and designer collaborations. Mr Amit Thapar, President of GAL, emphasised that the company’s vision extends beyond supplying yarns to building an ecosystem that empowers creators, retailers, artisans, and self-help groups, while Mr Saurabh Gugnani, Sales Head – Domestic Craft Yarns, highlighted the meditative and therapeutic benefits of knitting, describing it as more joyous than coffee or chocolate. Once a seasonal hobby associated with older generations, crochet and knitting have been decisively reclaimed by Gen Z, driven by slow-fashion values, social media virality, and celebrity influence, and are now becoming vehicles for entrepreneurship and self-employment. Reflecting this surge, GAL’s B2C segment has grown fivefold in three years. Reinforcing its commitment, GAL has revised its Punjab manufacturing expansion plan to ₹750 crore from an initial ₹301 crore, with ₹400 crore already deployed, aiming to increase its workforce from 5,800 to over 7,100 employees. Actively partnering with NGOs and SHGs to train women artisans, GAL is leveraging India’s vast self-help group network to strengthen community-led livelihoods. Headquartered in Ludhiana, Punjab, with over five decades of expertise, GAL continues to build India’s premium handmade craft economy through product innovation, artisan partnerships, and SHG-linked livelihood programmes, guided by its philosophy: Crafted by Hand. Created with Love.
